The one with the shells

An engaging guide for little beachcombers

A hybrid shell guide slash children’s story.

Kathy was my first client. My project manager, Becca, referred me to her for help with her Kickstarter campaign. She’s a retired teacher and snowbird grandma. The idea for her book came to her while walking the beach with her grandkids. They wanted to know the names of the shells they found, but at the time Kathy only knew the names of a few common shells. Later they went to the library together looking for a book on shell identification, but all the books they found were too complex for their needs. Kathy decided to write a book that would be ideal for sharing with little beachcombers.

Kathy’s campaign provided an interesting challenge in that there weren’t illustrations for me to pull from like with my campaign. I kept in mind the target audience (snowbird grandparents) when designing the campaign and accompanying Facebook ad (below). There was also a bit of a time crunch, as we decided to lunch before the 2022 holiday season, leaving only a few weeks to get things up and ready to go!

Other than the video, which was shot and edited by Kathy’s husband, Chuck, I created all design elements for the campaign.
